Costs Explained

1. Summer Work in America Programme fee £259

The USIT Work in America 2007 programme fee covers administration, issuing of your DS2019 work papers and many support services and costs involved in the operation of the Summer Work in America Programme both before and after you travel.

2. Insurance fr £99

You must be comprehensively insured for the full duration of the Summer Work in America programme and must opt for the USIT insurance cover which has been specifically designed for your needs. Medical expenses cover is £3m and cover for your personal property is up to £750. Cover for certain hazardous activities are also included for the more adventurous and - exclusive to the Summer Work in America policy.

3. SEVIS Fee £25

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is the tracking system brought in by the US government in 2003. It means that you must let the authorities know where you are living and working while in the US by registering in the SEVIS system. Full compliance regulations and participant responsibilities will be detailed in your online Participant Handbook that you will receive before departure to the US. The separate charge for the SEVIS fee is £25. It is additional to your programme fee, is non-refundable and will be collected at the same time as payment for the programme. USIT will wire this money to the USA on your behalf so that you will receive the required receipt of payment with your DS-2019 work document to show at your US Embassy interview.

4. US Embassy Visa fee £63

All applicants must attend a US Embassy interview in person either at the US Embassy in London or the US Consulate in Belfast. The Embassy charges a visa fee (currently £63) and this fee is directly paid to the Embassy. Please do not schedule this interview until USIT advises you to do so.

NB: The US Embassy reserves the right to issue and refuse the J-1 visa. In cases where a visa is denied, full cancellation fees will apply and neither USIT nor CIEE can be held responsible for or make any plea to reverse any decision made by the US Embassy. The US Embassy decision is final. NB! Depending on your nationality, you may be required to pay an additional visa fee and/or undergo 'additional processing'.
